Sandstone turns up all over Vaucluse: retaining walls, stairs, garden edges and the rock the house sits on. Where it’s in shade it holds damp, grows algae and lichen, and darkens. Not all stone behaves the same, so we spot-test stone before using any chemical, and we’ll tell you in the quote if a stain is likely to fade rather than disappear.

Harbourside homes collect a salt film off the water. Homes near the ocean cliffs face stronger wind and spray, and their glass, frames and balustrades show it quickly. Either way, the view is a large part of what a buyer is paying for, and a hazy pane between them and the water undersells it.
